I feel like this past weekend has been one of the best weekend i've had in a VERY long time, and to not write about it to preserve it in my memory would be a waste.
What happened this past Saturday and Sunday was actually part of a job experience. As (most) of you know, part of the course i'm learning involves camera work and such; so we were given the opportunity to hold a real multicamera production for the Indie Youth Fest in One Utama.
It was pretty last minute - SAE only found out that we'd be doing this a little over a week before the actual event. So meetings were held to finalize everything. It was interesting and exciting. We planned out the camera positions and the camera men assigned to each camera. I got assigned to camera 3 along with Erica and Jeff. The day before the event, we found out that our camera is the one that would be doing a lot of moving around (on and around the stage!) and boy, did I panic. But after thinking it through and talking to our senior and lecturers, we decided to try our hand at it.
So the next day we had an 830AM call time and Erica picks me up and we head over to OU. Had breakfast, got our shirts (which is pretty awesome and very official :D) and started setting up the cameras. The weather was killing us. The sun was shining directly towards us for a good part of the afternoon. Thankfully we got an umbrella to shield it out. We took turns trying our hand at the camera and holding the cables when one of us moved around to the stage and such. I didn't try holding the camera free hand on that day - just stuck to the static position on the tripod. I was nervous! Haha.
But I got to try using the Switcher! It was all just exciting. I kinda messed up the few times I tried the switcher but most of it wasn't too bad I suppose. Haha.
By 4PM though, we were all just really tired. But despite the tiredness and the aching arms and the sweat, we were all still happily doing our work. I'm not sure if i'm talking for everyone, but I was still enjoying the day.
The event was about an hour or so behind time so instead of ending at 8PM like planned, the day ended around 930PM. I got home around 10PM and straight away headed for a shower and watched a bit of tv and by 11PM, I was in bed ready to get a good nights sleep!
The call time for day 2 was 10AM so we got to sleep in a little bit more. Got to OU and hung around a bit before setting up around 11AM. After we were set up, nothing started yet so Leng and I headed over to the Wii room the organizer had set up and started playing Wii Sports haha! Our lecturers was karakoe-ing in the room provided hahahaha!!
After a while we left and went to play Guitar Hero instead! :D That was fun. Hehe.
Then it was back to work! Recorded and stuff, and got to direct as well! That was scaaaary. I'm pretty sure i'm shit at Directing. :P
After that, Leng and I went to the place Lenka was supposed to be performing at and waited for her to come on. But it just took
too long! So we decided to head back along with one of our seniors who also wanted to see Lenka. We headed back and went to work. Missed her gig but I didn't really care to be honest. :D
So after Kelly told me to just try the free hand camera, I did. Soooo glad I did! It was so so so fun! The shots were better up close and the experience of just walking around on stage and getting different views and angles was just really fun. Loved it.
It felt like the whole thing was ending way too fast. I wasn't even tired on day 2! So weird. Haha.
When everything was over, it kinda sucked. xD
We took lots of pictures and had lots of laughs while we were packing up. Gathered around and our lecturers just spoke to us and stuff. It was great.
Got to discover some really good local bands and artists during this event as well.
On the way home on the second day, Erica and I were discussing this and we're just really thankful to be given this opportunity. I learnt a LOT during these two days and i'm pretty sure all of us did too. I remember during Sunburst when I saw the camera man moving the crane about, I was thinking to myself that I want his job. I got to somewhat experience what it'd be like if I did get a job like his.
I'm not sure if it'd be as awesome as it was once i'm outside in "the real world". The SAE crew that weekend just made it better to be honest. They were all easy to get along with and there was no drama or whatever shit.
I can't wait for the October one. Hopefully that would be as awesome, if not more, than this one was.

More pics later.
